Community Resilience Event in Ashland, Oregon.
On October 4th 2020, nearly 4 weeks after the Almeda Fire began in Ashland and tore through Talent, Phoenix and South Medford, a group of over 30 people gathered at Billings Farm, in a field just north of where the fire started. With flowers donated by local farms, we offered blessings to the land and worked together to create a large Earth Altar. The Tree of Life is in the center. Four circles mark the four directions. Each of the triangular sections represents one of the four communities impacted by the fire - and is marked with the first letter of that town.
In the grove of trees adjacent to the field, we also created small altars at the base of the burned trunks.
Film maker Katie Teague has put together a short video of the completed altar - see below.
Here are just a few images from the day.
Thank you Oshala Farm, Fry Family Farm, Whistling Duck Farm, Flora Farm & Design Studio, and Happy Dirt Farm for the beautiful flowers. Thank you Billings Farm for allowing us to use your land.
